Star Wars: A New Hope at the Sioux City Symphony

This weekend, epic adventure sweeps into Siouxland as the Sioux City Symphony presents Star Wars like you've never experienced it! The original Star Wars movie, now known as A New Hope (episode 4) will be shown on a huge screen at the Orpheum theater with the original voice and sound effects, however the symphonic music originally provided by the London Symphony Orchestra in the 1977 film will be replaced by live music from the Sioux City Symphony! A New Hope is rated PG, but there are few scary moments, and I would recommend this event for kids 8+ who can sit still and quiet for 2+ hours (the movie run time is 121 minutes, plus plan on a few minutes of introduction from the Sioux City Symphony and possibly an intermission) and who are okay with some sci-fi suspense and fighting. Star Wars: A New Hope at the Sioux City Symphony has two performance times: Saturday September 29th at 7:30pm Sunday September 30th at 3pm All seats are $49, and tickets are available onli

Siouxland Halloween 2018

Halloween this year is on a Wednesday (October 31st), and there is no ordinance setting trick-or-treat hours for neighborhoods in Dakota Dunes, North Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff, Sioux City, or South Sioux City, but traditionally it is recommended kids go between 6 and 8pm. Here are some other fun ways to celebrate Halloween in the Siouxland area this October (this list will be updated as I hear of new events, and I will try to make sure they are shared in the Facebook group as well, so check back throughout the month!): Saturday October 6th 10am-4pm: Earl May Pumpkin Fest featuring games, clowns, a bounce house and more, plus free pumpkin painting with purchase of a pumpkin Sunday October 7th 10am-3pm: Pumpkin Day at the Pioneer Farmer's Market in Sergeant Bluff, with face painting, rock painting, pumpkin painting, and tons of delicious seasonal food Wednesday October 10th 9:30-10:30am: Mommy & Me Morning Halloween Party at Chick-fil-A, kids are

Birthday Freebies & Discounts around Sioux City

It's my birthday! To celebrate, I'm sharing with you this list of birthday freebies and deals you can score from restaurants and stores in the Sioux City area. As far as I can tell these are all in effect as of September 2018, but always read the rules and terms from whoever is offering them, as they could change. Some stores keep their promotions the same for years and years (like Starbucks) while others change them frequently (like Sephora--usually a makeup sample of some sort). For all of them, you have to be signed up for their rewards program and/or e-mail list, which will mean you get marketing and other e-mails from them throughout the year as well, so keep that in mind when deciding which ones are worth signing up for. I recommend signing up at least 2 months in advance, as some automatically send the birthday reward e-mail a few days in advance, or at the beginning of your birthday month, and if you aren't on the list before the auto-send date, you usually won
