Sioux City Six: 6 Things Siouxland Families will love this fall!

Today is officially the first day of fall 2017! As the leaves fall and pumpkin spice everything begins to appear in stores, here are the top 6 most fun things I recommend for Siouxland Families this fall: Visit a Pumpkin Patch. Check out our list of pumpkin patches within 2 hours of Sioux City for some fun suggestions. Go to the theater or symphony! Fall means the start of the season for symphonies and plays at venues across Siouxland. Some of my top picks for Siouxland Families this fall include Beauty and the Beast at the Sioux City Community Theater and Symphonie Fantastique (Oct 28) and Disney's Fantasia (Nov 18) from the Sioux City Symphony . Hike amidst fall leaves. Some of our favorite places in Siouxland to hike include Stone Park, First Bride's Grave, and Five Ridge Prairie , but I've also heard great things about Ponca State Park, and Danish Alps. Learn about plants and animals in fall at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center or Adams Nature Preserve. Bot

Woodbury County Old Town Fall Fest

In the mood for fall fun? You won't want to miss 2nd Annual Old Town Fall Fest in Moville, Iowa this weekend, Saturday September 23rd from 10am-3pm. One of Woodbury County's best kept secrets is Old Town at the Woodbury County Fairgrounds in Moville, Iowa (keep going about 10 minutes past Menards on 20 East, then turn left at the sign for the fairgounds, towards the water tower!). Aside from its use as the kids zone for the fair, Old Town doesn't get much love. But it should. Old Town is a collection of buildings from the oldest days of pioneer settlement in Woodbury County, including a school, bank, jail, church, and train station. My 8 year old actually said his favorite part of the fair was exploring Old Town. And this year is the second annual Fall Festival in Old Town! Here's what you can expect at Old Town Fall Fest other than awesome historical buildings you and your kids can explore: Free admission! Games and Activities for Kids 25c games for kids

Siouxland Families Explore Five Ridge State Prairie

One of my family's favorite things to do together on a fall day in Siouxland is go hiking. We recently visited Five Ridge State Prairie and had a great time. I definitely recommend it to Sioux City area families who like hiking! Here's what you should know if you want to go hiking at Five Ridge Prairie too: Where is Five Ridge Prairie? Five Ridge Prairie's official address is 15561 260th St ,  Westfield, Iowa. It's about 16 miles or 27 minutes from downtown Sioux City to Five Ridge Prairie's eastern parking area via Stone Park Blvd, Broken Kettle Rd. K-18, and 260th Street. You can park on the eastern side of Five Ridge Prairie to access trails, or on the western side to access the cabin and trails. When you turn on 260th, you'll be on a dirt road that is somewhat narrow and seems to be heading nowhere. You're still on the right track. Eventually you get to the sign you see above. Down to your right is a nice little grassy parking area: Sign

Breakfast for Dinner Pajama Party at Chick-fil-A

If your family loves breakfast for dinner  as much as mine does, you won't want to miss the Chick-fil-A breakfast for dinner pajama party this Thursday night from 5-7pm at Chick-fil-A on Sergeant Road! During the pajama party, breakfast foods will be available for purchase including chicken biscuits, chick-n-minis, hashbrown bowls, and burritos. There will also be a free craft for kids making Fruit Loop Fall Trees, a slipper contest,  some fun giveaways and samples, and adults who come in pajamas will be entered into a drawing for a 64 count nugget tray. I'm pretty sure I could eat an entire tray myself, but I won one once and it was plenty of food for 4 adults and 2 kids who all like nuggets way too much! (I think it's recommended for 6-8  people.) Every event I've been to at this Chick-fil-A has been well done and cute, and I am sure this will be no exception. Take the night off of cooking and put on your comfy pj's instead!

Sioux City Park(ing) Day 2017

This Friday, September 15th from 10am to 2pm is Park(ing) Day! What is Park(ing) Day? Park(ing) Day is a special day when individuals, groups, businesses, and non-profits can turn a metered parking space into a fun place to hang out! Games, crafts, and other fun will be happening in these spots--the only limit to the (family friendly non-commercial) activities is the creativity of the participants. Park(ing) Day started in San Francisco in 2005 and has since spread to hundreds of cities around the world. This is Sioux City's second year participating. You can find out more about the history of Park(ing) Day and about how it is celebrated in different places at the official Park(ing) Day website. Example of a Park(ing) Day space from another city. Park(ing) Day 2017 in Sioux City will be happening in 33 downtown Sioux City parking spaces between Douglas and Jones on 4th and 5th Streets, plus a food t

Magical performances of Beauty and the Beast coming soon to Sioux City's Community Theater

Dreams are coming true at the Sioux City Community Theater this September. From September 15th to Oct 1st, the SCCT will be bringing the Broadway version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast to Sioux City area families. I had a chance to talk to Director Joey Hartshorn, and if her enthusiasm for the production is any indication, we are definitely in for a treat! The first thing to know is that on September 9th, SCCT wants you to be their guest! They're hosting a Beauty and the Beast Luncheon for kids ages 5-12 at the SCCT (1401 Riverside Blvd) and the registration deadline is Sept 5th at 5pm (registration is $12 per person.) So if you are reading this before Sept 5th, go register for the luncheon and then come back and read more about the musical! You can sign up at the SCCT or call them at (712)233-2788. All signed up now? Great! Luncheon attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite Beauty and the Beast character and will have the chance to take pictures with memb
