Jitters Donuts says: "A 'hole' lotta fun tomorrow for National Donut Day! Come on and take a pic with our giant Jitter donut!"
Friday June 2nd is National Donut Day, and two of my all time favorite Sioux City eateries are planning some delicious deals and fun for donut lovers! National Donut Day sounds like a new made up holiday, but has actually been around since the 1930's when the Salvation Army in Chicago held the first such day in honor of Salvation Army members who gave donuts to Allied soldiers in WWI, with proceeds of the first National Donut Day going to help those in need due to the Great Depression! Today in some cities it is still a fundraiser for the Salvation Army and other charities, but for most it is just a fun day to enjoy a favorite food and score some deals. In Sioux City, here are the best donut related celebrations happening tomorrow:
Jitters
Jitters Donuts at 306 Virginia Street in downtown Sioux City said that for National Donut Day (besides their usual amazing donuts--my personal fave is maple frosting and sprinkles!) they will be offering special cereal donuts, a selfie station with this hilarious and awesome giant donut, and have hinted at some mysterious surprises too!
Sunkist Bakery
Sunkist Bakery at 4607 Morningside Ave is getting in on the National Donut Day fun too and will be selling all their donuts, which are normally 80 cents, for only 50 cents! (My favorite there is the donut holes with cinnamon and sugar!)
Hy-Vee and Casey's are also Siouxland favorites for donuts but have not announced they are holding any donut related deals or celebration for National Donut Day.
If you are a donut lover in the Siouxland area I definitely recommend checking out one (or both! I won't tell your dentist if you don't tell mine!) tomorrow, and any other time you're in the mood for a delicious little cloud of sugar and flour known as a donut!
***UPDATE***
Sprinkles Donuts & Coffee at 700 Jennings Street is featuring fun specialty donuts like their Cookie Monster donut plus sampling their mini donuts. They are open from 8am to 5pm today!
