There's a newcomer to the Sioux City donut scene, and Siouxland Families couldn't wait to try it out. Here's what my family thought when we tasted Sprinkles Donuts:  The basics Sprinkles Donut and Coffee Shop is located at 700 Jennings Street, inside the Sugar Shack Bakery building--turn right when you walk in the first set of doors, and you can't miss Sprinkles. Sprinkles Donuts is currently open from 8am to 1pm on Fridays and 8am-noon on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Expanded hours may be coming soon! A creative new hobby is sweeping the country, and Sioux City families are discovering the fun of rock painting and hunting. The basics To participate, paint rocks, hide them around town, and/or find rocks others have painted and hidden. That's it! The background The painted rock trend started as the Kindness Rocks movement. A woman named Megan in Cape Cod who loves finding interesting rocks, shells, and seaglass along the beach thought others might be cheered by finding fun rocks as well. She started painting rocks and leaving them to be found by others. As she posted pictures to social media of her painted rocks, her friends and families wanted to join in on the fun, and it took off like wildfire. National Donut Day sounds like a new made up holiday, but has actually been around since the 1930's when the Salvation Army in Chicago held the first such day in honor of Salvation Army members who gave donuts to Allied soldiers in WWI, with proceeds of the first National Donut Day going to help those in need due to the Great Depression !
